Swim with Joyce is a resort wear collection I produced at University. As a former swimming teacher I have a love and understanding for swimming and take a nostalgic route through this collection.

Vintage and contemporary elements have been merged together to create, ‘Swim with Joyce’ SS/2020 resort wear collection. Inspired by my grandmother; Joyce, and her beach photographs and slides. This has developed elegant, modest and smart silhouettes. Along with, classic, timeless fitting garments with soft, tactile elements and layers.

I take a digital approach when producing garments. I use Lectra and Clo3d to make patterns accurate and to reduce fabric waste, as they can be fitted to a virtual model before being made to check the fit. 

​

A range of loosely woven, textured, lightweight Cottons and Linens have been used, to keep the wearer cool and fresh, provide comfort and to allow the fabric to breathe, which is ideal for a resort wear collection. Mint Blue, Mango Orange, Banana and Vivid Yellow and White are the main colours used to represent a cheerful and fun beach environment. The contrast between neutral and vivid colours work well together. The accent colours emphasise the neutral colours and makes each shade of colour stand out. These colours also feature in patchwork, hand embroidery pieces to reuse leftover fabric from the other garments in the collection. Shirring and gathering have been key in the progress of my designs which has created texture and volume within the, ‘Swim with Joyce’ collection.

My main vision and aim is to get customers to purchase less and buy better quality garments.
